Now that it’s warming up outdoors, Let’s Be Healthy!
It’s the perfect time to shake off the winter doldrums and head outdoors for some fresh air in Stacy Green’s mixed-use development. Constructed around a large greenbelt park, developers plan to make the park a popular gathering spot for residents and visitors who appreciate Stacy Green’s Live-Work-Play-Stay concept.
The Stacy Green developers hope you’ll consider taking up some form of outdoor exercise in its many Hiking areas and walking/bike trails.
- Walking – according to webmd.com, walking for 30 minutes, 5 days a week, at a brisk pace (about 4mph) will help ward off chronic disease, can lead to weight loss, and in general lead to an increased sense of well-being.
- Cycling – an excellent cardiovascular exercise, you can also explore Stacy Green, and Allen, with the series of interconnected hike and bike trails throughout the city. Allen currently has over 65 miles of paved hike and bike trails, several which have been developed to provide art, history and engaging experiences. - Jogging/Running – terrific for your heart and lungs, jogging can burn calories faster than walking. But it does put more stress on your joints, if that’s a concern. Start slow and build up.
- Hiking – different than walking or jogging, hiking uses a lot of up-and-down movement, so you get a tremendous let workout along with the cardiovascular benefits. With Allen’s large park system, there are plenty of places to get out and enjoy nature while taking a break from daily stresses.
Stacy Green, in conjunction with the City of Allen, is part of a long-range Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan, spanning 2011 – 2020, whose goals were established based on input from the City of Allen residents, city staff and park planner’s professional opinions.
